The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun State Command, is generating over N50 million revenue monthly at the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) Igbesa in Ado-odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
Comptroller of NCS in the state, Ade Dosumu, also hinted that the Service would continue to ensure international best practices at the zone, stressing that the OGFTZ has the potential to be global trade centre in the near future.
Dosumu, who was at the zone on Tuesday during a facility tour with journalists, said the Service raked in over N50m revenue caught across import and excise duties.
He explained that, “Since my assumption of office last year, the zone has been given expected monitoring and I want to assure you that we shall continue to ensure international best practices in the zone.”
Dosumu said he was impressed by the activities witnessed at the zone “and I can tell you that they are seriously contributing to the development of our economy. Here, we have about 2,000 workers in various companies in the zone; we strongly believe that more are still coming to the zone.
The NCS comptroller said from the discussion with relevant stakeholders, the road in the area would be rehabilitated to also improve on the activities in the zone and its environs.
“You know that the road in this area belongs to the state government,
but, soon, there will be improvement as we are talking on the need to assist the investors.”
The visit took the NCS team and newsmen to eight companies, working in areas of allied and manufacturing products.
